Some of the finest cars on island – including some of the most expensive machines – lined up at Tuanaimato last Friday, to the delight of hundreds of car enthusiasts.

The occasion was Samoa’s V8 Car Show, held as part of the 56th Independence Celebrations at the Faleata Race Course.

The Show had been a popular attraction in the past but it was the first show in five years. There big trucks, minis, vintage cars and some seriously looking pimped up four wheel drives.

It was an amazing sight and atmosphere was enjoyed by all.

Member of the V8 Club, Anton Cobcroft, said there were about 80-100 cars being showed off.

“We think it’s a good way to commemorate Independence Day because it’s our hobby and also vehicles are important,” he said.

“Without transport, how will our economy roll and how will people travel. This is really important to us, to the V8 club so we thought we should do a V8 show.

“It’s growing. A lot of people who have cars want to participate in these kinds of event. Every year, there are more and more cars participating.”

But it wasn’t just showing cars for the sake of viewing. There was also a competitive edge to it.

“It is a competition. For cars that have a number on it then they are registered, for cars that don’t they are not part of the competition but they are just there for show.

“Prizes range from monetary awards to servicing your cars, including car parts pitched in by car parts sellers who have helped us with this event.”

According to Mr. Crobfort, planning of the event was done in three months.

“But I reckon we need a lot of time to plan such an event.

“There are plans to have it next year and by the looks of the number of people present here now, which is the most since we started our car show, we will have a meeting and finalise whether we will have this show next year.

“We had some money in our savings account from our last car show, so we used that, but a bulk of the donations came from the businesses.”

Here are some more photos from the show:
