Samoa is unique because of its Christian beliefs.

That’s the first thing that comes to Christina Kalifa’s mind when she is asked about what she thinks sets Samoa apart from the rest of the world. 

When approached by the Sunday Samoan she was shopping with her husband who is a Samoan and from the village of Satapuala.

Ms. Kalifa is no stranger to Samoa.

“So I’m originally from the U.S.A. and I married my husband a couple of years back and we are actually residing in American Samoa but we will be moving back to the States this summer,” she said.

“Marrying a Samoa guy means taking a lot of risks because we are completely different, in terms of culture, family commitment and the life style which I had to adjust to when I married my husband.”

“As a palagi we are independent. We don’t rely on anyone for anything, but in the Samoan way everyone helps everyone especially the children to the parents.”

“Like if his family needs something it is a must to help them and for me that was something I had to learn in the beginning but now I’m the one who has to remind him of everything that is happening here because he is a busy man.”

“We don’t have children yet but when we do this is the lesson I want to teach them is to learn how to give and not to be greedy.”

“Learn how to share and love each other because that is the biggest lesson I have learned when I married my husband.”

She went on to say she’s been travelling here few times but in every trip she always learned something new from it.

“I notice how the people of Samoa value religion,” she said.

“I mean nothing could ever separate them from their religion and that is something I haven’t seen in the States.”

“I believe that is why Samoa is such a lovely place and the people are so nice is because they have something that they believe and value which is God and nothing and nobody could ever take that away.”

“And that makes Samoa so unique.”

So does that mean she will recommend Samoa to her friends and families back home?

“Of course I will,” she said.

“I want them to experience what I’ve experienced and especially to taste some of the beautiful palusami, drink a gorgeous cup of koko Samoa and live a relaxing and simple life here in Samoa.”

“I will miss my husband’s family but we have to do back and work and save up so we can come again and visit such a place.”
