Miss Samoa ready for Miss Pacific Islands

Miss Samoa, Sonia Piva, is ready for the 2018 Miss Pacific Pageant in Tonga. Last Saturday, the outfits she will be wearing during her stay in Tonga were displayed during a fundraising event held ahead of her departure this week. Held at the Ministry of Health’s conference room, the event featured 10 outfits donated by various designers like Rupi Taituuga, Pele’s Creation, Iya and Kuki. Betham Brothers donated a dress made by Wendy’s.

Rupi Taituuga is among the local designers getting behind Miss Samoa, Sonia Piva, as she begins her mission to bring the Miss Pacific crown to Samoa. Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Rupi said he is delighted to have been able to help Ms. Piva, who is leaving for Tonga this week.

P.M. and leaders should note that times have changed… and so have our people

Times have changed and so have people. There is absolutely no doubt about that regardless of whether we are talking about Samoans or any other ethnic group. Here on these shores, while we’d like to think that Samoans are civilised people and that our actions will always be dictated by fa’aaloalo, ava fatafata and alofa, we must accept it’s not all that way anymore. For some people.

Dear Editor, Just for the record, I didn’t dish out this information just to insult the “believers”. I did it to enlighten those that want to know the other side of the coin if you will.

Re: Two new cases of H.I.V. People don’t appreciate the importance of sex education, some people find it hard to talk about given the sometimes stereotype that comes with contracting HIV/AIDS.

Samoa needs to hold free sex education programmes on safe sex and make condoms available for free so people can protect themselves. We can’t stop people from doing what they are doing but we can educate people on making the right choices so they can protect themselves.
