The family of Malietoa Gatuitasina in Sapapali’i, Savai’i, welcomed new chiefs on Monday.

The thirteen are the new holders of the titles Papali’i, Taimalelagi and Seiuli.

Papali’i John Afele Timalelagi, who is also the C.E.O. of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration, said the occasion was a joyous one for everyone involved.

“The title bestowment ceremony followed a unanimous decision by our family to have more chiefs assist in our family affairs,” he said.

The bestowal formalities started with a church service where Reverend Esera Auatama Esera blessed the new title holders. He urged them to be steadfast, humble, loving and giving.

“Our Church Minister reminded them the importance of holding a chiefly title, which is to serve the family, village and church,” said Papali’i.

He welcomed the new title holders and congratulated them for their boldness in taking on the title, which of course comes with responsibilities.

“They are the new pillars of our family and we look forward to welcoming their philosophies and advice of what happens in our family,” said Papali’i.

“Being a leader comes with great responsibilities, not only to families, but to the village and churches,” said Papali’i.

Papali’i titleholders: Papalii Toaluaotulafale Taulealo-Mariscal; Papali’i Donald Mac Enokati Ane; Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti; Papalii Lupe Faimata; Papalii Vaaiga Ina Tuiletufuga; Papalii Ropati Papu Tema; Papalii Pouvi Papalii Oloigogo and Papalii Paó Papalii Saitumua.

The three new Taimalelagi titleholders are: Taimalelagi Namuaimana Fagamalama Matalavea; Taimalelagi Maxine Lomialagi Hunter and Taimalelagi Malotuifeagaimaleata Wilson.

The Seiuli titleholders are: Seiuli Lemafoa Tenari Tuatagaloa Fauolo-Matalavea and Seiuli Nicholas Cafarelli.
