A family at Vaitele-uta is grateful for divine protection after they survived what could have been a fatal accident yesterday morning.

Marie Samoa’s family were sound asleep when a speeding vehicle driven by a drunken teacher veered off the road and crashed into their home. 

The crash occurred at 2am. 

“Someone could’ve been killed if it wasn’t God,” she said.

 “It was a very dangerous situation. Up until now, we are still shaking but we are extremely grateful that no one was hurt.”

The incident has caused significant damage to the family’s house.

But that’s not what is particularly scary about it.

“We’re very, very lucky to be alive,” she said.

“I have two daughters and we usually sleep inside this room. 

“But it was last night (Thursday) that we decided to sleep in the other room of our house. If we had slept in this room, we could be dead.”

The family is shocked by what happened.

“When I woke up, I saw something that had just moved into our house very fast,” she said.

“When I got closer ... the car was already inside the house with the music still on and loud.”

Ms. Samoa said the rocks in front of their house lessened the impact of the crash as it slowed down the vehicle.

But they were powerless to stop the car completely.

 “Once it got past the rocks, the car took down everything,” she said. 

“It smashed the windows, front wall and it destroyed my daughter’s stuff...the car also moved my kid’s bed to the other side of the room.”

Ms. Samoa said the driver was drunk.

“When I looked inside the car, the driver was very drunk,” she said.

“I mean, he was out of it...he was trying to come out, trying to say sorry, but I told him it wasn’t the right time to say sorry.”

The Weekend Observer was told the driver is the Principal of a Primary School.

It was not possible to get a comment from the Police yesterday.
