Nourish Café Opens

Members of the public have one more option to choose from when looking for a place to enjoy breakfast and lunch in town. 

 Located at the Ace of Clubs compound, they can now add the Nourish Café to the list of café choices.

The Café opened its doors yesterday. And if the number of customers enjoying a taste of what the Nourish café offers was anything to judge by, it is set to be a hit with customers. Owned by Ivan Ah Liki and Kalais Stanley, Nourish Café is set out to promote “local cuisine” and “organic farming.”

“What we’re trying to do is to push and encourage local cuisine. We don’t want to be using imported tomatoes when we can use the local tomatoes we have here in Samoa,” said Kalais.

 The café is also looking at working with local farmers to promote organic farming so that they can use the organic products for the meals.

“This will also encourage our local farmers to produce and work on organic farming and value it.”

Moreover, Kalais said promoting healthy eating is one of the main concepts of the cafe. Hence the logo of the café- “Local, Organic and Wellness.”

“We also look at supporting healthy food and we have noticed that our people are now becoming more aware of the value of healthy food and we want to implement that with the dishes we provide here.”

Kalais described the café as “very educational.”

“Not only for us, but also for the people of Samoa because a lot of our dishes we incorporate local ingredients like laupele, togo-togo and etc. 

“This is our way of promoting healthy eating, and to remind our people to value organic farming and our local products which have a more unique nutritional value than the imported products we get from overseas.”

Kalais said that opening a café was something she had always wanted to do. 

“I come from a food background. My parents have their own restaurant in Samoa and I also work for Women in Business Development, which focuses on working with local organic farming. I’ve always had a lot to do with food,” she said.

“I also discussed it with my partner and I told him that I wanted to push and promote local cuisine in Samoa.”

The construction of the building started in October last year when Ivan’s family decided to develop the Ace of Clubs complex, said Kalais

Therefore, Ivan and Kalais grabbed the opportunity and started their business. 

And Kalais said she was very “grateful for the opportunity to make this dream a reality.”

“We are very excited to be serving the people of Samoa. And we are hoping to contribute into the economy of Samoa and be at service for the needs of our people.”

The café caters for approximately 75 people at a convenient location in the heart of Apia.
