Get it right

Dear Editor

Re: Salaries too high

1. The salaries are not “more than what government officials get overseas”.

Do the exchange rate and you’ll find the highest paid official in Samoa earns something like $95,000 AUD or $75,000 USD. If you’re telling me most of the US Congress get paid less than $75,000 USD then you’re clearly lying.

2. They are not tax-free salaries.

Re: Judge blasts Peseta

Peseta isn’t a “senior member” of the HRPP. He is relatively new to parliament. I think he has only served 2 terms. He has only ever been an associate minister rank.

The other guy, Laauli, is a senior member of the HRPP, having served as the speaker of the house for one term and now also minister of cabinet.
