A Trust set up to help young people discover themselves received a $40,000 injection yesterday thanks to the Canadian government.

The Samoa Social Welfare Trust (S.S.W.T) met with Canada’s Ambassador to Samoa, Mario Bot, at Mulinu’u where the assistance was presented.

The funding is for the Trust to carry out programmes with assistance from the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administrations (M.J.C.A) to develop the potential in the programme’s participants to improve their lives.

In presenting the donation, Mr. Bot said the Samoa Social Welfare Trust was not only the organisation which applied for funding but they chose to help because they believe in the vision and mission of the organization.

The group’s theme for this year “There is Hope” inspired them to help, Mr. Bot said.

Project Manager of Samoa Social Welfare Trust, Velda Fido, said they appreciate the assistance.

“This funding will help out the young generation of our country who are not in schools anymore,” she said. “Some if them are in Police custody of minor issues.”

“There are three projects that we are working on. The most important one is for the young generation of Samoa who are not in school and not getting any education so we try to get them in and we hope to help them.”
