The reigning Miss Samoa, Alexandra Iakopo, continues to fulfill her role and has been quite busy since the beginning of the year.

She had some charity work lined up for the year, including a visit to assist with the Samoa Blind Persons Association and last week she did just that.

She conducted school and community visits for the members of the association residing in Savai’i in which she was honoured to do so.

“The main purpose for this visit is to re-connect, gather information, determine progress and discuss any challenges the members are currently facing,” said Ms. Iakopo.

“One of my favourite quotes that I have learned from this visit was from our member Siulepa Lemalie and her teacher aid at Uesiliana College saying, ‘See the able, not the label’.”

She added: “Despite the awareness in these aspects of our development, our attitudes towards persons with disability remain as an issue.

Being educated about inclusive education, sports etc. are not the same when it comes to implementation and the way we Respect, React & Respond to one another.

“Let us not limit ourselves to one’s physical and intellectual ability, but rather the understanding that we can help each other discover our hidden strengths *or more like SUPERHEROS discovering their SUPERPOWERS!” which altogether can make a difference for our communities.

“I would also like to thank Ford Hyundai Samoa for providing the Miss Samoa vehicle to assist in her community work.

A big faamalo to our team Mata’afa Faatino Utumapu, President of Nuanua O le Alofa and Chairperson for S.B.P.A., and of cers Sa Siilata and Isa’ako Tuato for all the hard work.”
