Every year, the Samoa International Game Fishing Association (S.I.G.F.A) hosts an International Tournament that attracts both male and female anglers from around the world.

This year is the 20th anniversary. The programme is as follows:

• Opening Ceremony – Saturday 23rd April

• Main Fishing Tournament and Daily Prize Giving  – Monday 25th April to Friday 29th April

• Ladies Day Tournament and Daily Prize Giving – Wednesday 27th April

• Final Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony – Saturday 30th April

The event is an opportunity to showcase Samoan hospitality and sportsmanship, friendship, fun, and most importantly, great fishing and prizes. Anglers compete in a week of competitive game fishing.

This week, thirteen boats and their crews departed Tauranga New Zealand and six teams from American Samoa will be sailing over their boats during the week prior to the tournament.

In addition, anglers from Australia, USA and other Pacific islands will also be making the journey over for a week of fishy fun.

Our S.I.G.F.A International Tournament is the largest game fishing tournament held in the Pacific Islands in terms of angler participation (200+) competing for cash and prizes with a total value of SAT$100k.

This year’s tournament could not have been made possible without the help of our major financial sponsors – Apia Concrete Products, Samoa International Finance Authority and Matson Shipping. Of course there are many other valuable sponsors to whom we are very grateful for their ongoing support.

S.I.G.F.A spends well over SAT$150,000.00 each year on hosting this event, the bulk of which generates income and jobs within the local business community. This does not include revenue from the large number of tourists who are attracted to Samoa for this event.

This year, S.I.G.F.A invites you and your friends to come down to our club house at the Apia Marina and check out the big fish being weighed on the gantry at 5.00pm each day during the week of tournament and make new friends. For more information, go to www.sigfa.ws or visit us on Facebook.
