Police officer pleads not guilty

A suspended police officer accused of indecent assault in relation to a drunken female at the Police station has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Leilani Savea, 33, of Uafato and Faleula, appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday to answer to the charges. He appeared before Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asue Falefatu Sapolu. 

Savea was represented by lawyer, Leota Raymond Schuster. 

The alleged incident occurred while Savea was on duty on 8 January 2016. It is alleged that he indecently assaulted a female at the police station. It is also alleged that he had sexual contact with the woman knowing she had been induced to consent by threat.

Savea’s hearing has been set for the week starting 3 October 2016.
