Barber’s explore Samoa

Apia was still sleeping off their New Year’s celebrations when we caught up with the Barber family from Sydney, Australia, yesterday mid-morning.

Jenny and her husband, Andrew, along with their son Jake, were enjoying a stroll along Apia’s seawall when Dear Tourist caught up with them.

“We’ve been to other islands in the Pacific such as Vanuatu and Fiji,” Andrew said.

“What other islands have we been to?” Andrew asked his young son Jake.

“Hong Kong?” said Jake.

“Ok that’s not quite the same,” laughs Andrew.

“Jake is pretty well travelled, but this is our first time to Samoa and we just got in yesterday and we plan to stay here for 10 days,” said Mr. Barber.

“We wanted to come here because it was somewhere different. You don’t hear a lot about Samoa, It’s a little bit out of the way, so we thought we’ll give it a try.”

Taking in the quiet surroundings of Apia, Jenny and Andrew realized that it was a lot quieter and less busier than they expected and they mused that perhaps they had arrived a day too late.

“Yeah we wished we had come for new years now, we’re a bit disappointed we missed out on New Year’s Eve,” Andrew said.

“It sounded like it would have been good. But we are looking forward to hitting all the spots around the island so there’s still much to look forward in enjoying our time here.”

The family was going at a leisurely pace yesterday morning and because it was a public holiday, they decided to use the day to plan for their holiday ahead, but so far from what they had seen, they were looking forward to further explore the island.

“Well so far, it’s beautiful here like with the landscape and it’s very clean compared to some of the other islands that we’ve been too,” said Jenny.

“The people seem to be very friendly so yeah it’s been great. We’re staying at the Sheraton Aggie Greys so it’s been really lovely. We’re heading for the visitors centre just to get maps and plan what we are going to do because we definitely want to go to the To Sua trench and hit the waters falls as well as the sliding rocks.”
