The Taveuni team from Fiji are the undisputed champions of the 2017 BSL SII 7s tournament.
The Fijians were on fire on Day two of the tournament, knocking out defending champions Ulalei Vaiala.
They went on to dominate the Cup final against the Viking Development team to win 27-5.
The final was a rematch of the last pool game of Day 1 between the same teams where the Fijians were lucky to win.
But it was a different story yesterday.
The Fijians picked up the pace and when they crossed the try line three times, the game was all but over for the young stars.
Taveuni team led from the start playing the entertaining brand of rugby the Fijians are known for. Their flair was obvious and their offloading game really hurt their rivals.
Prior to the final, Taveuni overcame All Nations in the Cup quarter finals.
Their semi final was a much tougher assignment against Vaiala but they made light work of them too, scoreless until the final two minutes. The final score was 19-7.
Taveuni Captain Alekesio Vakarorogo was a proud Fijian yesterday.
“I am so excited and happy, not only because we won the tournament but also because of the effort showed by our boys throughout the tournament,” he said.
Vakarorogo said this is the first time many of the players have played outside Fiji.
“We’ve enjoyed everything,” he said. “We spent one whole month putting together our team for this competition, and we think it was worth all the hard work we put in for our preparation, I think we would also like to come back again and again for this wonderful occasion.”
The Vikings would have been bitterly disappointed but they were graceful in defeat.
“I am so proud of our team, even though we didn’t get the win, but credit to my boys for getting this far,” Viking’s Captain Elisapeta Alofipo said.
