The dead body of a man from Faleatiu was discovered last week by village members, 300 meters from his home.

According to the police media officer, Su’a Lemamea Tiumalu, the deceased was a 60-year-old father and the incident was reported to the Ministry of Police on Friday 26th August.

He said police discovered wounds to the back of his head and on his back when his body was brought to the hospital that day.

At the moment, Su’a said there is no prime suspect in this incident but they are continuing their investigations.

He also confirmed that the injuries sustained by the deceased are from a gun, however, he is not yet in the position to confirm what kind of weapon was used.

“Police are continuing their investigations. We are getting a gun expert to examine the body of the deceased to identify what kind of weapon was used and how far the suspect was away when he shot the man.”

Su’a said the deceased had left his home to fetch coconuts at around 7am but his body wasn’t  found until around 12noon the same day.

“We are working together with the village members to locate the suspect and we acknowledge the support of the village,” said Su’a.

Su’a also added that a postmortem report has been requested to confirm the cause of death of the 60 year old.
