What’s an emergency

While it’s not new to learn that there are more and more reported and unreported breakins, what is news, are recent claims made by members of the public.

Despite country-wide advertising of the Emergency Call numbers for Fire, Police, Ambulance and Disaster in our telephone directories, on TV and on notices posted all over town, there is one tiny problem.

People seeking help from the law have told us there is nobody on the end of the line when they have called for help on the well publicized Police number 995.

That’s right, nobody is on the other end of the line.

In frustration, one person called the police station to complain about the unmanned line only to be told, “But you can always get us on 22222”.

Thanks very much!

If that’s the case, what is the 995 emergency number for?
