The Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters (S.A.M.E.) has started its ISO 9001:2015 and Food Safety Standard (H.A.C.C.P.) training under its partnership with the Samoa Qualification Authority (S.Q.A.) and the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.).
The training took place at the Millennia Hotel training last week.
Colin Stringer, Technical advisor for S.A.M.E., said the training was fruitful.
“It was a great success exceeding S.A.M.E’s expectations – which targeted 45 students, however due to high demand 57 students and 28 private sector companies /organizations participated in the 2 days of training,” he said.
Participation by students and top management from the Samoa Shipping Corporation, Bluesky as well as other private sector organizations was a strong indication of the commitment by the private sector to engage in enhancing their competitiveness.
President of S.A.M.E., Tagaloa Eddie Wilson, opened the training.
“The training is part of the on-going International Certification and Food Safety Systems Certification (H.A.C.C.P.) which started in 2009- following advice given to him by Prime Minister Tuilaepa - for the Private Sector to ‘pull their socks up’,” he said.
“The training program is supported by the S.A.M.E. ongoing Certification program for International Standards to enhance the competitiveness of the private sector in Samoa, to meet and exceed local and export market requirements for Samoa made goods and services.”
“Under the three-way partnership between S.A.M.E.-S.Q.A.-N.U.S., the training component will be accredited under the S.Q.A. Framework of accredited non-formal qualifications, and will eventually be localised under partnership between S.A.M.E. and N.U.S.”
“Scarab New Zealand is currently delivering the training, with a view for S.A.M.E. to localise this component in liaison with its partners S.Q.A. and N.U.S.”
