Yesterday was a day of celebration for Asovale Mitilupe Fereti. The occasion was her 65th birthday.

Hailing from the villages of Patamea, Sale’aula and Vaitele-uta, Asovale is known in her family a loving mother who is a fighter.

“I want to thank God for adding another year to my life…to me, everyday is a birthday from God to reflect, and fully appreciate the miracle of being alive,” Mrs. Mitilupe said. Rev. Muao Su’a led the service in prayer.

“Even though snares of the death surrounded us everyday, we’re not alone.  God is still there to keep us safe, to walk with us at anytime, For He is our great refuge.”

Her seven children and grandchildren have many ways of describing her.

“She’s our idol and true hero,” daughter Selaupasene said. “Our mother had never been to school before but that didn’t stop her from believing that education for her children is the way to success,

“Our family started from nothing…I remembered vividly back in the days, our mother never lose hope, no matter how hard to get money to put us in school, she was there to walk and asked for help,  “She even borrowed money from others to make sure that we went to school…especially as our father was the only one provided for our family,

“Mum works all day and has the weight of the world on her shoulders everyday… “She was never ashamed of how poor our family at the time…she built us up from the bottom all on her own while dad was still busy at work,  “Many times, we saw her tears during our faigalotu every evening…praying…begging God for his continuous blessings for us and our family, “And today, the answer was given through those tears…”
