The National University of Samoa (N.U.S) is the grateful recipient of two Medical Text books on “Common Conditions in the Tropics” from the Author, Dr. C.R Schull.

The books were presented to the Vice Chancellor last week by Rebecca Schull-Meade, Dr. Schull’s daughter and grandchildren who were here as part of the Operating Rooms Call for Help in Development (O.R.C.H.I.D) team.

O.R.C.H.I.D is no stranger to Samoa, now in its sixth year of regular annual visits bringing surgical teams from various surgical specialties to support Samoa’s health sector and In particular the National Health Service (N.H.S) and the National Kidney Foundation of Samoa.

It is led by Salailua Naseri-Cotter who is the inspiration behind this amazing initiative.

The O.R.C.H.I.D team is in Samoa with eminent colorectal surgeon, Dr. Brian Meade, husband of Rebecca, supporting the N.H.S surgical team.

They were here last month with Dr. John Bingley, Vascular team.

O.R.C.H.I.D has now, in their bid to assist workforce capacity extended their services to assist the Faculty of Medicine, N.U.S, by providing teaching opportunities at the undergraduate level to support the learning of our future doctors.

And through them, Dr. Schull has offered to come and give some lectures within F.O.M on tropical medicine.

Dr. Schull is a Respiratory Physician with extensive knowledge and experience in Tuberculosis and tropical illnesses having worked for many years in Papua New Guinea and with aboriginal communities in Australia before his most recent post as Senior Lecturer in Medicine University of Queensland.

The FOM looks forward to hosting him in the near future.
