They might look like your average tourists but there is a little bit more about Ken and Robyn from Australia you should know.

The Melbourne-based couple are not only here to explore the country, they are also here to help out where they are needed.

This is the couple’s first time in Samoa. They are helping the Samoa Cancer Society and the Anglican School at Leifiifi.

“I’m helping out with the management at the Samoa Cancer Society and my wife is volunteering at the school for three days a week,” said Ken.

Asked why they decided to use up their time to help Samoa, the couple said they help where it’s needed.

“This is the best way to spend our time in this beautiful country and at the same time we get to explore it a bit,” he said.

“Not only the scenery but also the people so that we can have a better understanding of what Samoa is like so helping out is something that we know we should do.”

“This morning we decided to come to town and witnessed the people and the country as a whole celebrate the most important milestone as citizens.

“It’s amazing how they go the extra mile to commemorate such occasion and how they value their culture and tradition and that’s beautiful.

“It’s more beautiful to see even the little ones making the effort to be here in the early morning just so they can remember and reminisce what their forbearers had done so they can have the freedom that they have right now.”

So what makes Samoa unique?

“The people are friendly and they are very welcoming,” said Ms. Robyn.

“Samoa is unique because of its natural beauty and it’s so small that everyone knows everyone.

“We will definitely tell our friends and families about this beautiful island because ever since we’ve been here we feel at home and that’s the most important thing.”

Speaking about the food Ken and Robyn love the fish.

“It’s fresh. There is something about it that makes us want more,” she said.

“The fruits are just beautiful, especially the coconut juice and it’s healthy too so at the moment we are falling in love with this country and definitely we will keep on coming to Samoa because I don’t think we will ever get tired of seeing and experiencing this beautiful place.”
