Let’s not be ignorant

A 55-year-old Samoan has warned Samoa to be on the alert about the growing number of Chinese businesses popping up everywhere.

Moses Vaima of Nu’u-fou said Samoa cannot be ignorant of what is happening because this has major implications on the future of Samoa.

“We all know they are here,” he said.

“I don’t agree because we are over populated by them and we don’t know the background of many of them. Some of them might be bad who knows.”

Moses’s biggest concern is land.

“Not only are they taking over businesses, they are taking our land. That’s why some of our families fight in Court. This is bad.”

He believes our people should be very careful or else China will take over Samoa.

“I know it’s not my business to talk about other people’s businesses but I think we all need to wake up and be alert.

“We should all be aware about this kind of matter.

“This is why the Village Councils should be aware of it and make sure that each village has its rules and laws for the safety of people in the village.”

Moses said money does strange things to people and this is the real danger.

“This is all happening because of money and that complicate matters.”

As a single father, his job is to provide for his family.

“I work at one of my family’s business, a car dealer and I earn $100tala in a week so the money I earn is for my family’s needs.”

His family depends on him.

“It’s hard because we have no plantation. That’s why I work hard, so that my family has what we need.”
