Samoa’s basketball team is set to throw everything including the kitchen sink when the U18 Oceania Championship gets underway.

When the team lands in Suva,Fiji , the weight of the team will rest upon the hulking shoulders of team Capitan, Wayne Sio.

The towering 6 ft tall basketball player is proud to represent the country again.

“It’s  great opportunity for me so that I can develop my skills and talents,” he said.  “Also , I’m proud to represent my country.”

Sio has been playing basketball for a relatively short time.

He first entered the international basketball arena when he was just 16 year old at the 2014 FIBA U18 Oceania Championship.  His ability to pull down countless rebounds, combined with his defensive skills and impressive shooting averages is what propelled the team to the final stages in the championship. The Federation of International Basketball Associations  has dubbed  Sio  a “force to be reckoned with” on the court and will be instrumental for the team to avenge their loss against New Caledonia in 2014.

Sio cites Michael Jordan as his favorite player and hopes to emulate his amazing rebounding skills.  He also  aspires to become a coach someday to pass on the lessons he’s learned through basketball.

Now at 18 years old, Sio has matured both physically and mentally and has grown into the role of Capitan.   As a veteran on the team, he is ready to take the team to new heights.  He is absolutely ecstatic about his new appointment and is assured that he won’t let his team nor his country down in Fiji.
