No compromise in sight over tax plan

Dear sir;

Well the time is here. The indestructible (EFKS church) has met the immovable (Tuilaepa’s HRPP govt.) Somewhere in between this uncompromising sandwich is the EFKS flock.

The back and forth on this topic of faifeau taxes has been long and emotional and well documented through the pages of the Samoa Observer. The government is adamant and has only made little concession limiting faifeau taxes to what comes through the church doors.

The church has maintained that its faifeaus will not pay any taxes, a decision that has been democratically reaffirmed by the last Fonotele at Malua. Any faifeau that will not abide by the church's decision will be deregistered and stripped of any church offices, and will not be qualified to pastor any EFKS congregation.

Like minded members will be excommunicated. Simple logic of a divided house. Conventional wisdom has bewitched the majority and church leadership will rue the day their theological underpinnings got compromised, whichever way this fiasco pans out.
