Make a living and pay your taxes

Dear Editor,

Re: Surprised Audit uncovers dishonesty

The government must also look to tax the black market operating under the breadfruit tree such as plumbers, mechanics, electricians, carpenters etc. who are collecting lots and lots of cash; more than the tax free $15,000 per annum threshold.

E.P.C also had to do regular audits of those businesses and private residence who are paying only $20 cash power for years and years.

An idiot turned up at our Palisi property and offered his service to save my family lots and lots of Tālā on electricity.

It was brought to my attention by my family in a general conversation that some lowlife who had claimed being a former employee of E.P.C had approached and offered his service to wire the shop and house metres to save us money.

The man reveals to my family he’s done lots of people’s houses and businesses hence tax money that belongs to Samoa is stolen by this scumbag to feed his family, the faife’au and his elderly relatives.

E.P.C and the government of Samoa belong to each and every one of us the people of Samoa.

I was angry when I was told and when I asked for his details, he didn’t leave any.

I’ve advised my family to get his contact information next time he calls in and I will personally contact the police to get the fraudster dance his tune before a Judge.

The government must legislate to make all those who tempered with electricity and water meters, and those who knowingly using electricity and water from a deceptive means to be charged with a criminal offence; fined and compensate the full amount.

There are so many ways to make clean money in Samoa and it’s time to educate people how to spin the dough to make a living and pay taxes.
