Saturday, was the kick off of the Rugby Academy Samoa’s R.A.S. TAG tournament.

The four week tournament fielded a number of future rugby stars starting at the age of five.

The R.A.S. Fitness Trainer, Leaupepe Esera Pokiko  said, “ During the last few week leading up to this, we do a little ball skills and fitness. This Tag tournament is bringing together all those skills so we can see the improvement.

“All these kids come during the week to do fitness and skills training. The tournament is designed for us to have a look and see how that development is coming.  This tournament shows that it’s getting better.”

“The other most important thing is physical activity for the kids to enjoy and have fun.”

It was especially exciting to see the growing number of girls getting out on the field.

Leaupepe said, “We also try to promote rugby skill but also activities for these age groups to get out and get healthy. It’s good to get the girls out and get up and get healthy.

Samoa is still developing girls’ sports, rugby as well. It’s good for girls to be involved in this level down here.  Most of these girls come for skills training during the week.”

The best part about this tournament is that anyone can join for free.

Leaupepe said, “We’re able to continue this thanks to our major sponsors Devondale Milk and Digicel.  As well as all our associate sponsors, Ah Liki Construction, Fridam Rentals, Chickalicious, Pasefika Inn, Mariyon Samoa, BSP Bank, Team Spirit, Production, Happy Kids Bouncy Castle, Cool Waters, Radio Polynesia and the Samoa Observer.”

If you are interested in enrolling your child in the tag tournament, join them next weekend at their field at Lotopa.
