Ele Opeloge’s influence as an Olympic medallist reaches far beyond the podium.

She has become the poster child for women in sports and her achievements are the culmination of hard work and persistence.

Yesterday, Ele Opeloge made a personal visit to the St. Mary’s Primary School in Savalalo to thank them for their contribution of $1,300 to the Ele Fund.

Ele has personal connections to St. Mary’s Primary through her cousin and nieces and even attended the school herself in her younger days.

During the visit, the girls sat in wide eyed wonder to actually see an Olympic athlete before their very eyes.

Their lovely soprano voices echoed thoroughout Savalalo as they sang in honour of Samoa’ Heroine.

More than once, Ele teared up during their performances.

Principal of St. Mary’s Primary, Sister Marsela Tenisio thanked Ele for coming to the school and relayed just how much her visit meant to the girls’.

She also touched on the impact Ele’s achievement will have on these girls.

Misty eyed, Ele thanked the school for their heart warming welcome and performances.

Ele shared with the girls’ the importance of listening to their teachers and to continue to work hard in school.
