Students attending different primary schools in the Aleipata district have an extra reason to look forward to school this week.

Courtesy of N.R.L. Samoa, Business Systems Limited and AusAid, many of them are recipients of some 1600 exercise books donated. The recipient schools include Satitoa, Ti’avea, Lalomanu, Samusu, Ulutogia, Lotopue and Vailoa. Each school received 200 books.

N.R.L. Samoa Development Manager, Gabrielle Apelu, said the donation is part of their Cyclone Relief Aid for schools in Samoa.

“Immediately after the cyclone, school buildings were damaged and flooded and the children’s educational materials were damaged,” she said.

“We found one of our schools writing in printing paper as all their school books had been damaged in the cyclone and are awaiting new stock.”

Ms. Apelu added that the Samoan culture is all about sharing and giving.

“This is just something to assist them while they wait for their new materials,” she said.

Ms. Apelu acknowledged the support of their partners in putting the donation together in a short amount of time.

“We were so fortunate that B.S.L. immediately jumped to assist us with the request on such short notice, we asked them on Friday and on Monday the books were ready.”

The schools in Aleipata was selected for the N.R.L League for Life Programme.

“The Schools visited were extremely happy and thankful of the items received.

“The Principals expressed their gratitude as it came at a time they are still awaiting their new stock and the kids couldn’t be happier.”
